What is a pawpaw?

Pawpaws are North America’s largest native edible fruit. The tree and the fruit, both called pawpaw, are native to the eastern half of the U.S. in wooded areas, especially near streams and rivers. Asimina triloba is a temperate species in the Annonaceae (a family of largely tropical plant species) and can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 5-8 and sometimes even further north.
